One of our favorite things is sharing what’s trending in home colors and finishes. We checked in with our friends at Kohler Co. to see what home trends are on tap to turn heads this year in display models and renovated homes all across the nation. Here are some of the concepts they’ll be incorporating into their new products — ideas you’re sure to love.
What began as bright white and gray a couple years ago has been transformed into a softer and more sophisticated palette. You’ll still see lots of white kitchens, but now in vintage white, warming rooms with matte finishes and layered tints that make monochromatic spaces really sing. Chalk and charcoal resurrects the white and gray trend but with softer whites and deeper, charcoal tones.
If you want a blush of color, blanched pastels take pink, baby blue, green and lavender to new levels of sophistication with barely-there hues and chalky finishes. Nuanced neutrals are making a comeback too, playing off the vintage white theme to embrace you in comfort at the end of the day.
Sultry Spices take center stage when talking accent colors. Rich and earthy, these are takes on the yellows, ochres, and rusty reds that adorn your spice cabinet.
Scottish Isles is just the ticket for a more traditional home, capturing the warmth of a Scottish hillside. Think leather, natural wool, and heathered finishes in warm tones of brown, green and cognac. You’ll also love the subtle tones of autumn that pair low-contrast woodgrain with satin finishes.
Another trend for floors and cabinetry is winter woods. These gray-washed and blanched finishes work perfectly with today’s softer whites, charcoals and neutrals.
Subtlety is the name of the game when it comes to shine in today’s trends — from translucent tints to iridescent shimmer. These finishes for glass and ceramic are rich and luxurious, lending a magical depth to any room.
Brass, bronze and copper are the metals of choice today, capturing the desire for authenticity while warming any room with richness. The finishes are warm and dimensional using brushed, tumbled and oxidized effects for a sumptuous textural contrast.
While chalky finishes reign in painted surfaces, you’ll still find shine but with a more subdued luster. Oyster and Oil combines an opalescent quality to both black and white, a combination that’s luxury personified.
And for the bold at heart, the peacock effect feels both indulgent and opulent. These saturated blue and green hues are coupled with velvety finishes that echo the striking beauty of its namesake.
We love sharing home trends from companies like Kohler. They work hard to know what’s hot at any given time, since their goal is to produce new products that people will want.
The 2019 Kohler trends report was created after in-depth research into culture and lifestyles to help them understand the dynamics of how people find happiness today. They determined five motivations that are at the heart of those dynamics: Wanderlust (choosing travel and experiences over more stuff), Clean (a desire for peace of mind, freedom from chaos, making conscious choices), Tech Tightrope (balancing tech benefits with a mindful life), Treat Yourself (indulging in what really matters) and Modern Momentum (a tendency to want what’s “in style”).
